Nokkela-IT-Concept · infrastructure specialists

We operate your IT infrastructure.

On-premise · managed · hosted.

We cover the whole life cycle of your IT infrastructure: specifying and procuring hardware, installing it in the data centre, virtualising it, backing it up and then running it under monitoring. Whether that happens on your premises, under our management or in a data centre in Europe is your decision — responsibility for the agreed scope stays with us.

Infrastructure that runs reliably

We build reliability in three layers. First we procure and configure the hardware vendor-independently and install it in the data centre. Then we virtualise it on open platforms such as Proxmox and KVM, with clustering, backup and disaster recovery. Finally we monitor, patch and respond, with support graded by service level.

Three paths – one accountable partner

We offer the same infrastructure in three shapes. On-premise: your hardware, your data sovereignty, our maintenance and support, with monitoring optional. Managed services: we take on operation, security and availability under defined SLAs and report transparently. Hosted services: your workloads in data centres in Europe, without hardware of your own.

On-premise

Your hardware, our support

Systems run at your site. We plan, operate and support – remotely and on-site.

  • Full data sovereignty kept in-house
  • Maintenance & support
  • Optional: monitoring
Managed services

We manage, you use

We take responsibility for the operation, security and availability of your infrastructure.

  • Defined SLAs
  • Proactive operations
  • Transparent reports
Hosted services

Straight from the data centre

Your workloads in data centres in Europe – scalable, without your own hardware.

Technology

A proven, open stack

We work with an open, established stack rather than a single closed platform: Proxmox, KVM and LXC for virtualisation, Ceph and ZFS for storage, Proxmox Backup Server for backup, Zabbix, CheckMK, Graylog and Grafana for monitoring, OPNsense, pf and WireGuard for the network edge. Open components keep costs and dependencies visible.

Why Nokkela

A partner, not just a provider

We put named contacts on your account instead of an anonymous hotline, so the people you speak to already know your environment. We work open-source-first, which keeps you free of vendor lock-in, we run our own hosted infrastructure in Europe, and we watch systems closely enough to catch problems before they become outages.

Accountable

Dedicated contacts who know your environment – no anonymous hotline.

European & sovereign

Our own infrastructure in Europe, open-source-first, no vendor lock-in – your data stays in Europe.

Proactive

We catch problems before they become outages.

Frequent questions

Questions about IT infrastructure

Below are the questions we are asked most often about this area. Each answer is written to stand on its own, so it stays correct when quoted alone.

What is the difference between on-premise, managed services and hosted services?

nokkela.systems offers three operating models. On-premise means the systems run on your own hardware at your site, with full data sovereignty kept in-house, while we plan, maintain and support them remotely and on site. Managed services means we take responsibility for operation, security and availability under defined SLAs, with proactive operations and transparent reports. Hosted services places your workloads in data centres in Europe, scalable, without your own hardware.

Which virtualisation and storage platforms does nokkela.systems use?

nokkela.systems builds on open virtualisation platforms, primarily Proxmox VE and Proxmox clusters on KVM and QEMU, with LXC containers where a full virtual machine is not needed. Storage is software-defined: Ceph for distributed block storage and ZFS for local pools with checksums and snapshots. High availability and clustering are part of the design, and geo-redundant replication is available where a second site is required.

How are backup and disaster recovery handled?

nokkela.systems treats backup and disaster recovery as part of the infrastructure design and not as a later add-on. We use Proxmox Backup Server for deduplicated, verifiable backups of virtual machines and containers, and we keep copies onsite and offsite so that one site failing does not take the data with it. Restores are tested rather than assumed, and a written contingency plan records what is recovered in which order.

What do monitoring and patch management cover under managed services?

Under managed services, nokkela.systems monitors, patches and responds proactively. Monitoring and alerting are built with tools such as Zabbix or CheckMK, with metrics in InfluxDB, dashboards in Grafana and log collection in Graylog; round-the-clock monitoring is available where the workload warrants it. Patch and update management keeps hypervisors, operating systems and services current, and support is delivered according to the agreed service level.

Can nokkela.systems take over an existing environment built by someone else?

Yes — nokkela.systems takes on new builds, migrations and the handover of running operations alike. We start by documenting what exists: hypervisors, storage, network paths, backup jobs, certificates and access. From that we agree what changes before the handover and what stays as it is, then move responsibility across in defined steps so the transition stays seamless. You keep control; we take responsibility for the agreed scope.

What does vendor-independent procurement and data-centre installation include?

Procurement at nokkela.systems is vendor-independent: we specify and select servers, storage and components on technical merit, then configure them and install them in the data centre — rack and stack, cabling, addressing and the first operating layer. Because the selection is not tied to one manufacturer's catalogue, the sizing follows the workload rather than a product line. Where software is needed alongside, we develop tailored software and cloud solutions.

How does nokkela.systems reach on-premise systems and how is that access secured?

For on-premise customers, nokkela.systems works both remotely and on site. Remote access runs over encrypted tunnels — WireGuard, OpenVPN, IPsec with StrongSwan or ZeroTier, depending on what fits the environment — terminated on a firewall such as OPNsense or a pf-based system, with VPN failover where a single line is not enough. Access is limited to the agreed systems, and on-site visits cover the work that cannot be done remotely.
